Philadelphia Eagles Releases Brian Westbrook

In a significant announcement The Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday released their running back Brian Westbrook, who if would have returned with the team would have owed $7.25 million in 2010. Brian spent was drafted by Philadelphia Eagles is the third round of 2002 NFL draft and since then has been with them during his eight-year career.

Philadelphia Eagles once again has shown that they’re not frightened to put business before allegiance after Westbrook’s release. Brian leaves Philadelphia Eagles as one of the most explosive backs in team’s history and an all-time leading rusher (9,785).

This move of Eagles would definitely have hurt the fans, but from team perspective the move makes complete sense considering Brian’s history of injuries. He not only had missed eight games this season due to his two concussions and ankle injury, he also has never been able to play a full season in his eight-year career. Clearly, Joe Banner & company felt that it wasn’t worth risking $7.25 million in 2010.

This is second time that Philadelphia Eagles have released a fan favorite this year, last march they released Brian Dawkins who went on and signed with Denver Broncos last March.
