Freeney admits torn ankle ligament
Despite the Indianapolis Colts franchise insisting that he only has a sprained ankle, Dwight Freeney confirmed during the Media Day on Tuesday that he has ‘a torn ligament on the outside part of his ankle’.
Just one day before, the head coach of the Colts, Jim Caldwell had stated that the star defensive end only had a third degree, low ankle sprain and that he is improving. However, after limping heavily to get to his podium for his interviews on Tuesday with a notably swollen ankle, the star of the Indianapolis Colts defence remains strongly questionable as to whether he will play any part in the Superbowl this Sunday.
Freeney did not make a decision as to whether he would definitely take part in the game or not but did admit to still feeling a great deal of pain. However, the Syracuse University graduate, also stated that the swelling was not that bad and had come down considerably from last week. Robert Mathis, the other Colts defensive end and another big playmaker for the franchise, stated that it was certain that Freeney would play some part and that ‘nothing is gonna keep him out of this game’. Yet, in his interview on Tuesday, Freeney maintained that the decision over whether he would play or not would be down to the coaches and may come as late as Saturday.
Even with injury doubts over one of their most important players, the Colts are the favourites to lift another Lombardi trophy on Sunday. It seems that many feel with the in form league MVP Peyton Manning leading the Colts electric offense that they will be too much for the New Orleans Saints who will be experiencing their first Superbowl on Sunday. However, with the incredible story behind the New Orleans franchises run to the Superbowl, many critics have labelled them the Team of Destiny and feel that this is their year to finally become world champions.
