The Mavericks Surf contest is being held today in North California about half mile off the coast of Pillar Point. This surfing competition was first started in 1999 and has been held every year since then. Mavericks surf contest 2010 started at 8am this morning, and its being streamed live using online webcasts at sites like ustream.tv

News came few hours ago there was an extreme wave during the event which caused several injuries to the spectators on a nearby wall. Our Sources revealed that about 8 people were taken to the hospital.

This wave was said to be about 5 foot high and stroked the viewers out of nowhere. Which is not surprising as it was expected that the strong westerly swell will bring waves up to 40 foot.

But this hasn’t brought down the excitement among the viewers or surfers; the completion is still running with several thousand spectators watching it live online. The finals will be held at 1:30 PM local time.

Some webcasts have reported to be slow due to server load. Here are some alternative webcast for the surfing contest you can watch the even on your mobile device using FloTv’s service at  www.flotv.com and the official Mavericks Surf webcast is aired at www.maverickssurf.com
