Cast Set for Yellow Submarine
After over 40 years since the original, Disney’s impending remake of YELLOW SUBMARINE from writer/director Robert Zemeckis (BACK TO THE FUTURE, A CHRISTMAS CAROL) has been cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, comedian Peter Serafinowicz will play Paul McCartney, with Robin Hood star Dean Lennox Kelly as John Lennon, Cary Elwes as George Harrison and Adam Campbell as Ringo Starr.
Serafinowicz has played McCartney in the past on the BBC’s The Peter Serafinowicz Show.
The Beatles original music, as with the 1968 original movie, has been licensed for the film. The music performance sequences will be based on motion capture footage of tribute band The Fab Four.
The movie, produced by Zemeckis with his Imagemovers Digital partners Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey, is scheduled for a 2012 release.
The original was a 2-D cartoon directed by George Dunning and the Beatles appeared only in a live action segment at the end. The remake will be 3-D animated feature.
Yellow Submarine was a 1968 animated feature based on music by the Beatles. It was produced by United Artists and King Features Syndicate.
The original movie was a hit when released. It is about a soldier called Old Fred who meets up with the Beatles and then travels in a yellow submersible to Pepperland. The group encounters the blue Meanies, who are music-hating creatures.
