‘Hope for Haiti Now (Breathless)’ is a Taylor Swift wrap of the ‘Better than Ezra’ song from the “Hope for Haiti Now” album.

American country-pop songster Taylor Swift enclosed “Breathless” at a concert at the Hope for Haiti Now: An international help for Earthquake Relief event, an aid organization telethon to help the sufferers of the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

She began the night with 10 nominations, the awards she won included song of the year and best R&B song, both for Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).

20 year old country star Taylor Swift was awarded four prizes, including the most coveted album of the year title.

The Black Eyed Peas, Jay-Z and Kings of Leon all departed with 3 awards each, while Lady GaGa and Eminem won two.
Beyonce also set a new record for the number trophies won in a year by a solo female singer, also took her career tally to 16.

The other awards she went home with included best contemporary R&B album, best R&B female vocal for Single Ladies and best traditional R&B performance for At Last. She was victorious in the category for best pop vocal performance for Halo.

“I’d like to thank my family including my husband, I love you,” she added, referring to Jay-Z.

But in a massive upset she lost to rock band Kings of Leon in the prestigious record of the year category.

In a big surprise result, their song Use Somebody won the prize, also beating songs by Lady GaGa, Taylor Swift and The Black Eyed Peas.

The same song also won the award for best rock song – triumphing over tracks by giants of the industry such as Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Green Day – while the band also picked up the award for best rock performance by a duo or group with vocals.

The group The Black Eyed Peas won  the trophy for best short video for the song Boom Boom Pow and won best pop performance by a duo or group with the vocals for I Gotta Feeling.

The group were victorious over acts such as Clarkson and Pink in winning best pop vocal album for their album The END.

Meanwhile, David Guetta, Jay-Z and Lady Gaga  all have 5 nominations; while Colbie Caillat, Kings of Leon, Bruce Springsteen, T-Pain, and Keith Urban all have 4.

Those who will performing live will include Travis Barker, Black Eyed Peas, Mary J. Blige, Andrea Bocelli, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band, Eminem, Green Day, Roberta Flack, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne and Pink and many more.

The show is now in full flow, and Beyonce has picked up 4 early gongs.

Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Lady GaGa are all shortlisted in the most coveted categories – song, record and album of the year which has yet to be announced.

The Black Eyed Peas also picked up a couple of awards,  winning best short video for Boom Boom Pow and best pop performance by a duo or group with vocals for ths ong I Gotta Feeling.

Lady GaGa has also picked up 2 awards so far – winning the gong for best dance recording for thw song Poker Face and best electronic/dance album for The Fame, rounding of a great year for her.

Other early winners included the Indian composer AR Rahman, who won two awards for the soundtrack to the Film SLumdog Millionaire which won the Oscar for Best Film.

“It’s been a great night. It wore me out. Now I have got to return & try & write some more songs,” Young said.

Young was honoured for his charity work, including his support of Farm Aid & the Bridge School Concerts, which  have raised money to provide services for kids with severe physical & speech impairments. This is due to the fact that Young has 2 sons who were born with cerebral palsy.

The  Musicares event started off the Grammy weekend -  with the awards taking place on Sunday night. It was atteneded by over 2,000 showing the respect so many people have for Young as a person and his work.

Other performances at the  Event which  was held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre and hosted by actor Jack Black came from artists including James Taylor, Elvis Costello, Keith Urban, John Forgarty, Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crowe & Norah Jones.

“I’d forgotten how many songs I’d written,” Young said.

Young’s former bandmates – Stills, David Crosby & Graham Nash – took to the stage last.

“We made a quantity of the best music of our lives with you, man,” Crosby said, a previous winner of the award himself.

Others who received awards included Aretha Franklin, Neil Diamond & Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.

MusiCares was established by the US Recording Academy in 1989 to provide assistance to musicians in times of financial, medical or personal emergency.

Young was born in Canada & rose to worldwide fame in the 1960s. His hits include Heart of Gold & Elderly Man.

Depp was named the Favourite Movie Actor and his Sweeney Todd co-star Sacha Baron Cohen honoured him with the Favourite Movie Actor of the Decade prize.

Baron Cohen revealed the event organisers decided to give Depp the special award after realising more people had voted for him in the past 10 years than any other celebrity.

Sandra Bullock was named Favourite Movie Actress and her film The Proposal won the Favourite Comedy Movie prize.

Laurie claimed the Favourite TV Drama Actor honour for House, and House won Favourite TV Drama award.

Hugh Jackman, who landed the night’s Favourite Action Star and Twilight’s Taylor Lautner, who was named Favourite Breakout Movie Actor.

Music awards went to Mariah Carey (Favourite R&B Artist), Carrie Underwood (Favourite Country Artist), Keith Urban (Favourite Male Artist) and Taylor Swift (Favourite Female Artist).

Over 60 million film fans, music lovers and TV watchers voted for the awards.
