Despite the Indianapolis Colts franchise insisting that he only has a sprained ankle, Dwight Freeney confirmed during the Media Day on Tuesday that he has ‘a torn ligament on the outside part of his ankle’.

Just one day before, the head coach of the Colts, Jim Caldwell had stated that the star defensive end only had a third degree, low ankle sprain and that he is improving. However, after limping heavily to get to his podium for his interviews on Tuesday with a notably swollen ankle, the star of the Indianapolis Colts defence remains strongly questionable as to whether he will play any part in the Superbowl this Sunday.

Freeney did not make a decision as to whether he would definitely take part in the game or not but did admit to still feeling a great deal of pain. However, the Syracuse University graduate, also stated that the swelling was not that bad and had come down considerably from last week. Robert Mathis, the other Colts defensive end and another big playmaker for the franchise, stated that it was certain that Freeney would play some part and that ‘nothing is gonna keep him out of this game’. Yet, in his interview on Tuesday, Freeney maintained that the decision over whether he would play or not would be down to the coaches and may come as late as Saturday.

Even with injury doubts over one of their most important players, the Colts are the favourites to lift another Lombardi trophy on Sunday. It seems that many feel with the in form league MVP Peyton Manning leading the Colts electric offense that they will be too much for the New Orleans Saints who will be experiencing their first Superbowl on Sunday. However, with the incredible story behind the New Orleans franchises run to the Superbowl, many critics have labelled them the Team of Destiny and feel that this is their year to finally become world champions.

Tonight is the NFL’s yearly All-star game of football, more commonly known as the Pro Bowl. The NFL Pro Bowl schedule has changed singificantly since prior years, with the location and channel changing since last year. The game will feature the top AFC players against the very best NFC players in the NFL.

Thsis year the Pro Bow will be on the ESPN channel, rather than CBS. CBS showed the game for many previous years, however due to tonights Grammy awards the game changes channels. Also, the location of the game has moved from Hawaii toFlorida.

This year the Pro Bowl is being played a week before the Pro Bowl. This is particularly interesting because several of the Pro Bowl team’s are also going to be part of next week’s Superbowl. The starting quarterbacks for both the Pro-Bowl teams are also the starting quarterbacks for both Superbowl teams, with the Colts’ Peyton Manning and Saints’ Drew Brees.

The Pro Bowl is always a great watch, and may give some pointers ahead of next weekend’s epic SuperBowl contest. I cannot wait to Watch Pro Bowl live, and should be one og the games of the year.

Alhough Pro Bowl gathers together the best NFL players, it is dissapointing to hear that 40% of those originally selected are not participating in the game. Aside from those players who are injured, 14 members from the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints will not play tonight as they are preparing for next weekends Superbowl.

Rex Ryan’s team had been held without a point. It hadn’t picked up a first down until eight minutes remained in the second quarter. At halftime of Sunday’s AFC divisional playoff game at Qualcomm Stadium, Ryan’s New York Jets had been outgained by the San Diego Chargers, 212-99, and looked as gassed and outclassed as the rest of the weekend’s lower-seeded roadkill.
Ryan has the Jets one win away from the franchise’s second Super Bowl appearance.

As the rookie coach convened with his players in Qualcomm’s cramped visitors’ locker room, it seemed inevitable to the outside world that the favored Chargers would eventually build on their seven-point lead and bust open the game, the way the favored Saints, Colts and Vikings had in securing the first three spots in next weekend’s conference championship clashes.
To Ryan, the scoreboard was a thing of beauty.

“We just played the worst football we can possibly play, and we’re still in it,” Ryan told his players. “Now let’s go out there and play our game. Just be true to us. If we go out there and play Jets football, we’ll win the game.”
What, you expected Ryan to be meek and understated? Yeah, and Al Pacino will be restrained and subtle in his next cinematic role, and the reunited Soundgarden will play acoustic folk tunes on tour.

The Baltimore Ravens easily defeated the New England Patriots in Sunday’s NFL game. It wasn’t surprising, but shocking how easily they won.

The Ravens forced Tom Brady into a succession of mistakes and embarrassments, finally winning at 33-14.

The Patriots were the dominant NFL team of the first decade of the 21st century. Their last home playoff loss was in 1978 and Brady had a perfect 7-0 in home playoffs. Sunday, however, he turned the ball over to the Ravens four times.

Baltimore scored a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and led 24-0 after only one quarter. Quarterback Joe Flacco, who won twice in his rookie season last year, really showed us what he can do on Sunday.

The Ravens now move to the next round, along with the New York Jets, who won against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Ravens will now play the top-ranked Colts at Indianapolis, while the Jets travel to San Diego to face the Chargers. The Colts are 6 ½ point favourites, the Chargers eight-point picks.

“Their era is not over, they know how to win,” Baltimore running back Ray Rice said. “But for the Ravens, to beat the New England Patriots set a precedent. We’ll always remember this win.”

This was the Patriots first playoff game since losing the Super Bowl two years ago to the New York Giants. This was at the end of their otherwise unbeaten season.

The Colts have been the Patriots’ closest and fiercest rivals for AFC dominance these past several years. They had that 14-0 start this season, but the Chargers had an 11-0 run of their own to finish the season.

The young, confident Jets have their own version of Flacco in rookie QB Mark Sanchez, who outperformed his role model, Carson Palmer of the Bengals, on Saturday.

Sanchez said, “You just take a look at the stadium and you hear the Bengal thing roaring,” he said. “You can hear the fans screaming at you. You can see the guys on the sideline getting animated. You think, `Wow, the entire country is watching this. And I get to say, `Go’? I get to say, `Hut’? They don’t do anything until I say, `Hut’? That’s crazy. It blows your mind. It’s unbelievable.”

The Jets will go as far as their defence and running game can take them, so long as Sanchez continues to avoid costly mistakes. The same, more or less, applies to the Ravens and Flacco.

This next round will be much tougher, but it would not be surprising at all to see the Jets face the Ravens in the conference final.
