The sci-fi action film, Cowboys & Aliens lost Robert Downey, Jr., as the leading man this week. Jon Favereau and Downey have been working on Iron Man 2 together, but will not be teaming up again for this film. According to Collider.com, Favereau has current Bond actor Daniel Craig in mind to play the part.
The title says exactly what the film is about. Cowboys & Aliens is a wild story of a gunslinger named Jake Johnson who fights with the local Native Americans before aliens show up and try to take over the world. The hero then works with the Apaches in order to whip those aliens all the way back to Gammon Omega Five, or wherever they came from.
Bond is currently on hiatus due to MGM problems and with the script still being written, the Cheshire lad turned Hollywood star has plenty of time on his hands. Jon Favereau has more than proved his directing ability. Daniel Craig has not really done this kind of movie in the past, but it could be movie heaven. So, will the actor sign up for some sci-fi meets western shenanigans or not? Craig is said to be discussing it with studio Dreamworks and director Jon Favereau.
Craig has already appeared in two Dreamworks movies, The Road to Perdition and Munich.

After over 40 years since the original, Disney’s impending remake of YELLOW SUBMARINE from writer/director Robert Zemeckis (BACK TO THE FUTURE, A CHRISTMAS CAROL) has been cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, comedian Peter Serafinowicz will play Paul McCartney, with Robin Hood star Dean Lennox Kelly as John Lennon, Cary Elwes as George Harrison and Adam Campbell as Ringo Starr.

Serafinowicz has played McCartney in the past on the BBC’s The Peter Serafinowicz Show.

The Beatles original music, as with the 1968 original movie, has been licensed for the film. The music performance sequences will be based on motion capture footage of tribute band The Fab Four.

The movie, produced by Zemeckis with his Imagemovers Digital partners Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey, is scheduled for a 2012 release.

The original was a 2-D cartoon directed by George Dunning and the Beatles appeared only in a live action segment at the end. The remake will be 3-D animated feature.

Yellow Submarine was a 1968 animated feature based on music by the Beatles. It was produced by United Artists and King Features Syndicate.

The original movie was a hit when released. It is about a soldier called Old Fred who meets up with the Beatles and then travels in a yellow submersible to Pepperland. The group encounters the blue Meanies, who are music-hating creatures.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn could begin filming later this year, according to the movie’s producer.

Producer Wyck Godgrey, in speaking to the Los Angeles Times, revealed that it still had not been determined whether the fourth installment in the vampire series will be divided into two movies, but that plans are to begin production in Vancouver this fall.

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Steward and Taylor Lautner are all contracted to return, he added. Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg is currently working on the script.

“It’s a work in process. The issue [of whether there will be one or two movies] is not going to be resolved until we get the full treatment and see whether it’s organic,” he explained.

“If it’s not organic, I don’t think it will be done, and if it is, it will be. It really has to do with how much level of detail from the books there is, with all of these new vampires that appear in Breaking Dawn, the whole section about Jacob… It’s a very long single movie if it does become a single movie.”

Wyck also revealed that it had not been decided how to deal with the character of Renesmee, the half-vampire, half-human daughter of Bella and Edward and no decision has been made on who will be the director.

Breaking Dawn is the fourth installment in the Stephenie Meyer’s vampire series.

Movie bosses have ordered a series of re-shoots, so Josh Brolin is heading back to Jonah Hex, the upcoming blockbuster.

Brolin plays disfigured bounty hunter Hex in the Western, a big screen adaptation of the popular comic books, along with Megan Fox and John Maklovich.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, although shooting on the big budget production ended last year, the stars are heading back to the set at the end of the month to film additional action scenes.

Twelve new pages have been added to the script, including more action. The reshoots are reportedly only going to last ten days. It has been reported the scenes will include more of Jonah’s pre-scarred life with his Native American wife, Cassie, and his son Travis. Jeb Turnbull, son of John Malkovich’s Quentin Turnbull, will also be added in, as well as President Andrew Johnson himself.

There’s two stories circulating as to why Hex needs a bit more work. Some are saying the additional scenes and extra money are to fix “certain problems with the movie.” Others say it was to really polish up the moderately-budgeted film.

The movie has had a series of setbacks, including the loss of directing duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who wrote the script, but allegedly left the project following creative differences with Brolin.

Originally scheduled for an August release, that date has now been moved forward to June.

Almost 20 years separate the 2008 release from the last Indy movie before it, “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” and those 20 years do show. Still, Harrison Ford would be happy to do another Indy movie if there’s good reason.

According to Larry Carroll, from MTV last week when interviewing Ford for this week’s release of “Extraordinary Measures,” Ford said, “I think it would be interesting to advance the understanding of the character, as we always have had that ambition throughout the series. I think it would be interesting to deepen the relationship between he and his son (Mutt, played by Shia LaBeouf), and play on that relationship…It’s full of opportunity. The series is full of opportunity.”

It is common knowledge that Ford, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have been kicking around ideas for more Indy. However, as of now, it is clear that any ideas for another movie in the series is still on the drawing board. Ford is optimistic that we will see another one soon enough. “I don’t think I’ll do it in a wheelchair. George (Lucas) is working on an idea, and if it comes to a fruitful stage, all of us are very interested in making another.”

Where would you like to see Indiana Jones next? Do you want to see more of Indy’s married life? Do you want to see his relationship with his son develop further?

Marvel super-heroes have been box office gold these past few years – X-Men, Spider Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Thor – quite a line-up.

Prior to the release of X-Men back in 2000, we would have to say that comic book hero movies were really bad, that’s not to say that there weren’t one or two gems in the late 80’s/early 90’s, but by far and large the likes of The Phantom, Judge Dredd, The Shadow and Batman & Robin were all pretty tacky. Worse than that, any film Marvel had released prior to 2000 ranked among the worst comic book movies ever known to man!

Then came the X-Men, an exciting, intelligence translation of 40 years of comic book history on-screen and everything changed. Throughout the last decade, Marvel ruled the roost when it came to comic-cinematic outings and according to Kevin Feige that’s long going to continue!

Several films are being made or planned by Marvel Studios. Thor began filming today. However, a legal fight is on the horizon between Marvel and artist Jack Kirby’s relatives.

Marvel filed a federal lawsuit against the Kirby estate last Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Last year Kirby’s relatives began sending out letters threatening a law suit and telling Marvel they owned the rights to these characters through Kirby’s estate.

Marvel issued their own counter-claim stating that Kirby did not own the characters and that he worked “for hire”. Will Kirby’s people win the suit and own the rights? How will this effect Disney’s take-over of Marvel Entertainment?

Movie giant 20th Century Fox said the film had earned more than $350m (£218m) in the US and over $670m (£415m) in the rest of the world in 17 days.

This 3D science fiction blockbuster was directed by James Cameron, who also made Titanic, until now the best selling movie of all time.

Avatar has been number one in the box office charts for three weeks straight.

The film’s revenues barely dropped over the busy Christmas and New Year weekends, while other films saw tickets sales fall.

The movie – about a disabled marine who infiltrates a race of giant blue aliens – was reportedly the most expensive film ever made, with a budget of at least $300m (£186m). It is also Cameron’s first film since Titanic, in 1997, which made $1.8bn (£1.11bn) worldwide. Cameron is now the only filmmaker to direct two films that have topped one billion dollars (£620m).

Along with Titanic, the other films that have grossed this high are The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King at 1.13bn US dollars (£700m), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest at 1.06 bn US dollars (£650m) and The Dark Knight at a fraction over one billion US dollars (£620m), according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com.
